Voters Hit Polls Tuesday For Special Elections
DETROIT (WWJ) - Voters in metro Detroit will hit the polls Tuesday to weigh in on bond issues and decide who will fill seats in local governments.
The special election polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. May 7.
All eyes will be on Troy, as voters will elect a new mayor after Janice Daniels was recalled last year. Daniels drew criticism after posting anti-gay comments on Facebook. Several candidates are vying for the job, including incumbent Dane Slater and former State Representative Marty Knollenberg.
Along with Troy, Wyandotte voters will have to decide a city council race with 10 candidates jockeying for six open seats. Wyandotte voters will also have to choose a candidate for city assessor, while the mayor, clerk and treasurer positions will be uncontested.
Voters across the area will also be deciding on bond issues. Most of these are school bond or millage proposals, including Plymouth-Canton and Livonia school districts for technology upgrades and building improvements.
Other school funding issues will also be decided in Richmond, Berkley, West Bloomfield, Rockwood, South Redford Schools and Airport community schools.
