Volunteers Wanted For MLK Day Of Service
DETROIT (WWJ) - More than two dozen Detroit schools will be open for a day of service on Monday, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday.
The call is out for volunteers to take part in a number of projects and activities on Jan. 21 as part of the Detroit Public Schools' "Come Back, Give Back" campaign.
Paul Robeson/ Malcolm X Academy principal Jeffrey Robinson said he needs about 15 to 20 volunteers.
"This building has undergone and is still undergoing a series of renovations and improvements and they are a lot of things that are still to be done to improve our educational environment," Robinson said. "So, we're hoping to take this day of service to address some of those things that have gone lacking that need to be done."
Volunteer projects also include student enrichment, art and murals, paint/clean up, repurposing and decluttering underutilized space. Wayne State University has dedicated 84 student athletes to volunteer at four schools.
