Volunteers To Walk Door-To-Door Promoting Detroit Angels' Night
DETROIT (WWJ) - City of Detroit appointees and community members will walk door-to-door in Detroit's central area on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon, to encourage volunteers to help watch over their blocks during this year's Angels' Night campaign, October 29-31.
Teams will be assembled to go door-to-door registering residents to turn on porch lights, watch abandoned houses, keep watchful eyes and ears for suspicious activity, patrol neighborhoods and watch their blocks.
Fire Commissioner Donald Austin says as long as you're willing to donate a few hours to help stop Halloween arsonists, it doesn't matter where you live or work.
"Even if you're visiting Detroit and you hear my voice and you're interested," Austin told WWJ Newsradio 950. "All those that live, work, and recreate in the city of Detroit, we would appreciate their efforts in helping us make this a successful outcome and we will not turn anyone down."
This year's theme is "Watch Your Block," a push to get residents to turn on porch lights and patrol the streets immediately surrounding their homes.
