Volunteers Head South To Help Tornado Victims
DETROIT (WWJ) - A group of local Red Cross volunteers is headed to Louisville, Kentucky, to help residents there recover from the recent tornado.
One of the volunteers is Neil Todd, who told WWJ Newsradio 950 they'll be providing emergency assistance.
"Mass sheltering, if it's required. Feeding, bulk distribution of personal care items and cleaning materials," said Todd. "And also, limited emergency financial assistance where that's required - to help them in the immediate needs of their recovery."
Todd said they will provide emotional support as well as counseling.
"Some of the personal stories, they do touch you," said Todd. "You can't help but be touched what these people have gone through and their reliance in a lot of cases ... in most cases. It's heartwarming and it's a rewarding experience."
He expects to be there for about two weeks.
