Vietnam Veterans Honored In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Chapter Nine Vietnam Veterans of American will host a remembrance on the Fall of Saigon beginning Saturday at noon.
When the flag of South Vietnam is raised during the remembrance ceremony, Associate Member Irene Spooner said people with memories and emotional ties to South Vietnam will be in attendance.
"Veterans that attend have a chance to reflect on their involvement in the Vietnam War," Spooner said. "To have members of the Vietnamese-American Association honor our veterans and thank them for doing what they did to protect them and their country from the communist, the North Vietnamese. It has a lot of meaning,"
Spooner said many of the Vietnamese-Americans who attend the annual ceremony are refugees.
The ceremony will take place outside of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter Nine headquarters on Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
