Verlander On World Series Game One: 'I Just Wasn't Able To Do It'

And just like that the Tigers trail the Giants 1-0.
Detroit really never had a chance in game one of the World Series. Justin Verlander saw his string of brilliant postseason outings end with his first loss of the playoffs. Verlander struggled from the get-go, lasting just four innings where he gave up five runs on six hits.
"It's disappointing, very disappointing, but like I said this is a team," said Verlander as he stood in front of his locker before a throng of media after the game. Verlander struggled to control his fastball and fell victim to the Giants Pablo Sandoval, who hit two homers against him and three on the evening.
Fans of the Tigers have already started to blame Detroit's five day layoff for their performance in game one. Verlander wasn't so sure, though, saying, "Who knows whether the layoff had any sort of effect. Obviously, I'm a creature of habit and you get a little bit out of your routine but who cares -- this is the World Series and you have to do whatever you got to do when you're out there and I just wasn't able to do it tonight."
