Victim Fights Back, Shoots Would-Be Teen Robbers
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say two teenage brothers were shot after attempting to rob two utility workers on the city's east side.
According to police, the incident happened around 9 p.m. Thursday as two 59-year-old men were working on a public lighting pole in an alley at Cloverlawn and Northlawn streets, north of Schoolcraft Road.
As the men were working, police say two teenagers approached, produced a weapon and announced a robbery. Police say at some point, one of the workers fired shots, striking both teenagers.
Police say the teens were rushed to a local hospital where the 16-year-old was listed in critical condition, and the 17-year-old was listed in temporary-serious condition. Police did not identify the teens, but did say that they are brothers.
According to police, the worker who shot the teens is a valid CPL holder. Investigators say they recovered the gun used by the teens, who are currently in police custody.
An investigation is ongoing.
