Victim Fights Back, Disarms Suspect With Fake Gun During Robbery In Restroom
TROY (WWJ) - Authorities say a 22-year-old man armed with a fake handgun tried to rob another man inside a public restroom but the victim fought back and other witnesses intervened, holding down the suspect until police could arrive.
Michael Jacobi, of Warren, is now facing an armed robbery charge in connection with the incident. He was arraigned on Wednesday and is currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
Police say the situation unfolded around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the City Center Building on West Big Beaver Road in Troy. According to police, Jacobi entered the men's restroom in the lobby and pointed a gun at a man who was washing his hands, demanding his wallet.
The victim handed over his wallet and in the process was able to disarm Jacobi when the suspect took ahold of the wallet. The victim then struck Jacobi with the gun and a struggle ensued. The fight spilled out to the lobby where another individual helped the victim hold Jacobi down until police arrived.
The victim, as well as Jacobi, sustained minor injuries during the incident.
It was later determined that the weapon used in the robbery was a replica handgun, police said.
