VFW Post 45-53 Nominates Detroit Cop As Best In State
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Police Department could soon boast having the best cop in the state of Michigan.
Officer Monica Evans of Local VFW Post 45-53 has been nominated for the annual competition, which is put on by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Evans has been with the department for 8 years and before that was a teacher for 12 years.
She works in the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms division ... but is most passionate about her work in Youth Violence Prevention.
" ...(with) intervention we can redirect those negative behaviors, so encouraging families, parents and young people to understand we all have gifts and talents - so how do we pull that out of them so they don't feel hopeless," said Evans.
"I really push for young people because they need our love, our empathy," added Evans.
Michigan's officer of the year will be named in June.
