Veterans, Homeless Move Into $6M Detroit Housing Project
DETROIT (AP) - More than two dozen veterans, homeless individuals and people with disabilities have moved into a Detroit apartment building offering low-income rent and support services.
The building was renovated as part of a $6.1 million project led by a local developer and Detroit Central City Community Mental Health.
Mayor Mike Duggan worked to shut down and seize the old property in 2003 when he was working as Wayne County prosecutor. The Detroit Free Press reports that he will tour the newly renovated apartments and meet with residents Tuesday.
The building opened to its 27 tenants in mid-March.
