Verlander's Rough Outing Turns On Three-Run Double
Justin Verlander pitched six innings but gave up 10 hits and five runs in taking his second straight loss. He felt the turning point came in the fourth inning, when LF Daniel Nava stroked a 100 mph fastball into left field for a three-run double on a 3-2 pitch. "He gave me a tough at-bat," Verlander said. "I felt the turning point in that at-bat was the 1-1 curveball I tried to throw. I threw it for a ball, then another ball. You know what's coming. He hit it down the line for a double. Obviously that was the turning point in the game. I can't say I pitched bad, but it was a battle because of the way they were putting at-bats together against me."
