Verlander Will Pitch Series Finale Vs. White Sox
RHP Justin Verlander has gone three consecutive starts without a decision, and he hasn't won since Aug. 6, but manager Jim Leyland has juggled the rotation slightly in a move he hopes will benefit the Tigers. Verlander will start Tuesday night in Kansas City on normal rest with RHP Anibal Sanchez, whose turn it was, getting an extra day off. The move was made so Verlander can face the White Sox this weekend. He is tentatively scheduled to match up with Chicago LHP Chris Sale in a marquee Sunday night duel on ESPN2.
--C Gerald Laird is invaluable as the relief man for regular C Alex Avila. Laird caught RHP Max Scherzer on Sunday. "I thought G-Money (Laird's nickname) deserved credit for sequencing those pitches," Scherzer said after earning his 14th win. "We were throwing off-speed pitches when we needed to and going with fastballs when we needed to. I thought we did a good job of sequencing."
