Verlander Takes Care Of Indians 4-0
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The spoiler was Cabrera....Orlando Cabrera ... who got the first hit in the eighth inning off of the Tigers' Justin Verlander. But the Detroit Tigers get solo possession of first place in the AL Central with the 4-0 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket, Verlander gets the shut-out against the Indians, here are the numbers: 1 walk, 2 hits, 12 strike-outs, 1st place.
"Darn it!"..."That's a toned down version of what went through my mind," said Verlander post game to the Tickets' Jeff Riger, about what went through his mind when Cabrera got the first hit off the Tigers.
With two no-hitters already on his resume, including one in Toronto last month, Verlander held the slumping Indians hitless until Orlando Cabrera lined a clean single to center with one out in the eighth for his 2,000th career hit.
The hard-throwing right-hander finished with 12 strikeouts in a two-hitter, giving Detroit sole possession of the division lead for the first time this season.
