Verlander Gets Extra Day To Figure It Out
RHP Justin Verlander will get an extra day of rest before his next start -- one more day of agonizing over three straight losses. Detroit is off Monday and everybody will be pushed back a day. Verlander last lost three decisions in a row in September 2010 and dropped three consecutive starts in August of the same year. Verlander said he had problems Sunday adjusting to home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt's strike zone. "That's an adjustment I need to make," he said. "There were a few innings where I totally abandoned throwing to one side of the plate." He allowed nine hits and walked four and, while two of the five runs he allowed were unearned, he still would have lost because the Tigers scored just one run.
