Verlander, Cabrera Keep Coming Through

Big players come up big in big games, the cliche goes.

So Detroit leaned on Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera on Sunday to get them back to .500 after they had fallen below that mark for the first time since late May of last year.

"We got a couple timely hits from Cabrera," manager Jim Leyland said, "and Verlander was good.

"He had a callous on the right side of the thumb and that's why we took him out after seven innings. It broke open and started bleeding a little bit so that's why we got him out of there. I don't think it's much of (a concern). You can do miracles with that kind of stuff today."
