Velcro keeps U-M's Denard 'Shoelace' Robinson On The Run
Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson's nickname is "Shoelace" because he plays football with his laces untied.
There is a Velcro strap across each cleat to keep the shoes on his feet. But in the Wolverines' 30-10 victory over Connecticut last Saturday, Robinson said he could hear UConn players yelling to each other to take off Robinson's shoes.
He said the Huskies succeeded once. Removing his shoesmightbe the only way to slow Robinson, who had 383 total yards in the victory.
Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez was asked Tuesday during the Big Ten teleconference whether he ever tells his quarterback to tie his shoes.
"He has Velcro on them so it's not like they're loose," Rodriguez said, laughing. "But I said, 'Denard, if they're going to keep yanking them off, we're going to have to get you tie those shoes up.' He just kind of laughed and said, 'I could always put the Velcro on a little bit tighter maybe.'"
