Valenti And Foster: One-On-One With Matthew Stafford
DETROIT (97.1 THE TICKET) – Mike Valenti and Terry Foster went head-to-head with Detroit Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford on 97.1 The Ticket Monday.
Valenti and Foster congratulated Stafford on scoring in the first quarter and fortunately he laughed.
"We executed, made the plays we needed to make - got in the red zone and scored," said Stafford.
Asked about his run into the end zone Stafford said it was tough. "It (took) all the juice I've got ... I figured out I was going to score about a foot before I scored ... I didn't see who was coming for me."
Stafford threw a 1-yard TD pass to Titus Young to put the Lions ahead in the final seconds to beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 on Sunday.
Sunday Stafford led a 16-play drive that started at Detroit 20 with 5:27 remaining against the Seattle Seahawks. The possession began with a 15-yard pass to Calvin Johnson and was kept alive with third-down conversion passes to Johnson in Lions territory and to Joique Bell to set up the winning score from just outside the goal line.
Valenti and Foster addressed Johnson's numbers: "He's not feeling his best," said Stafford, "(we) missed some opportunities but we are making them pay with other guys."
Stafford acknowledged that the throw to Johnson in the end zone would have been a great play. " ... he makes that play 10 out of 10 times, he's a leader on our team and we love having him."
A must win for the season?
"(It's) a step in the right direction," said Stafford acknowledging that sometimes the Lions make it tougher than they need to ... "but we know we've got 60 minutes ... to make it happen."
