Va. Tech Kicker Released From Jail; Won't Face Michigan
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell has been released from jail on bond for a breaking and entering charge.
Journell appeared Wednesday in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Blacksburg to appeal a judge's decision last week to deny him bond for a Dec. 21 home invasion. The judge ordered him released on a $100,000 secured bond.
Journell was suspended from the team after he and two others were involved in what police said was a report of a "physical altercation" at a house near downtown.
The 20-year-old redshirt sophomore was 14 of 17 on field goal attempts this season. He will miss the Sugar Bowl when the Hokies take on Michigan.
Journell's attorney, Brian Scheid, did not immediately return a telephone message.
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 23.
