UPS Drivers Rush To Deliver On Busiest Day
With Christmas is mere days away, UPS drivers are hopping. The United Parcel Service has hired more than 37,000 seasonal temporary workers this year -- and they will be needed on this busiest day of the year for deliveries.
UPS Livonia Spokesman Chris Yohn tells WWJ's Florence Walton that some of the drivers actually enjoy this busy season.
"I was speaking to a driver the other day -- this was his twentieth 'peak day' -- and he said, you know, it's always exciting to be a part of something this big.' He said, 'but, at the same time, what really brings a smile to my face just to see the excitement of that customer when they receive the package they've been waiting for,'"Yohn said.
"Whether it's a gift for their child or what have you, you know you can tell they've been excited. And, [the drivers] kind of get to play Santa in a way, too," Yohn said.
Yohn says UPS is expected to deliver more than 24-million packages on Wednesday alone. On average, UPS delivers more than 15-million packages daily.
