Up For Bids: Signed Babe Ruth Baseball

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - There's some baseball buzz surrounding this weekend's 9th annual Rochester Hills spring antique and collectible auction slated for Saturday.

Salvation Army Rochester Hills Thrift store owner Brian Smith said a man walked in and donated an autographed Babe Ruth baseball  complete with a certificate of authenticity.

So, what's it worth?

"He even showed me a couple of other listings for other Babe Ruth baseballs that have been auctioned off," Smith said. "One he showed me went up to $318,000."

The donor said the Salvation Army helped him out once. He never forgot that, and he wanted to pay it forward.

Smith said that's not unusual.

"We've had cars that have been donated to Salvation Army. We've had high-end purses ... jewelry," he said.

Other hot items up for auction include a Hank Arron signed baseball, Tiffany & Co.  jewelry, a prayer card signed by Mother Teresa (pictured above) and all kinds of unique antiques.

Nearly 600 lots will be up for bids at the event on Saturday, May 4, at the Rochester Hills store located at 823 East Auburn Road.
