Union Workers Contract With MotorCity Casino Hotel Extended
DETROIT (WWJ) - The contract between the union and the MotorCity Casino Hotel was extended for 48 hours Sunday, just hours before the deal was set to expire. A union official tells WWJ there will be no walkout or strike.
Cynthia Boone is with "Unite Here Local 24", the union that represents the casino workers.
The union claims the casino is refusing to continue contract talks. A spokeswoman for MotorCity says both sides are talking, there just hasn't been an agreement.
The breakdown in talks is over the price of health insurance and how much the employees will have to pay, according to Boone. There are nearly 4,000 employees being represented.
Contracts are up and being negotiated at Greektown and the MGM-Grand, as well as the MotorCity Casino Hotel.
