Union Questions Surround Nissan Plant In Mississippi
DETROIT (AP) - Pro-union workers say Nissan has threatened to close its Canton, Mississippi assembly plant if workers vote for the United Auto Workers to represent them.
The company denies such threats, saying it "follows the law and always has."
If true, such threats would violate federal law, which prohibits managers from telling employees they'll close a plant in retaliation for a pro-union vote.
The UAW is targeting the 5,200 worker plant in an organizing campaign. Employees have yet to file a petition for election.
In the meantime, the union is trying to push the Japanese automaker to allow it to present its case to workers. The company has refused.
