Undocumented Father Of 2 Pleads To Stay In U.S.
DETROIT (WWJ) - Faith and community leaders are calling on immigration officials in Detroit to stop the planned deportation Friday of a Richmond man.
Florencio Avila Cachu has two chronically ill children.
"This is for my children that I ask ... please, to the Obama administration, stop my deportation," Cachu said, standing outside the Department of Homeland security in downtown Detroit.
"I want to continue to take care of them and watch them growing up here in America, the county we love. Please, don't tear my family apart," he said.
Cachu said he came to the U.S. nearly 20 years ago, and now he hopes to be spared from decoration by new prosecutorial discretion changes announced recently.
Cachu is in the country illegally, but said he's been working as a landscaper and his two children were born on American soil.
His 11-year-old son has a heart problem and his 8-year-old daughter has diabetes.
"If I am forced to return to Mexico, my children will be left without a father. I will not be able to [financially] provide for them and make sure they get the help they need," said Cachu.
Another woman at Wednesday's news conference asked that her mother not be deported.
