UM Web Site Presents Arts And Culture News

The University of Michigan's re-launched website, Montage, features the latest news about the arts, creative endeavors, collaborative projects and engaging events. To visit the site, go to www.montage.umich.edu.

This week's features include:

* "UM and the Peace Corps: It all started here," a compelling exhibit at the Hatcher Graduate Library that examines the origins, history and legacy of the Peace Corps. The exhibit is part of a campuswide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps. For more information, visit http://peacecorps.umich.edu.
* New mural evokes the power of the wind: A bold-striped mural designed by New York artist Roberto Juarez will adorn the UM Aerospace Engineering Department's wind tunnel dome. The painting is currently in progress.
* UM students to share stage with legendary dance company: In addition to a formal show, the Paul Taylor Dance Co. will step along with dance students in two concerts.
* Made in Ann Arbor: Meet a UM grad who wrote and directed, "Answer This!" filmed on campus and in Ann Arbor. The film premiere is Oct. 8 at the Michigan Theatre.
* Provocative play to open season: UM's Theatre Department opens its new season with Pentecost by English playwright David Edgar.
* Art exhibits: Among the latest exhibitions are the UM Museum of Art's examination of works by James McNeill Whistler; an entertaining survey, "Creators Collect," put together by UM School of Art & Design faculty.

Other features include: the work of UM grads, faculty and students who have art in this year's ArtPrize competition; a profile on the new director of the UM Museum of Art; a semester-long examination of "What makes life worth living?"; a look at UM School of Music, Theatre & Dance's innovative performing arts technology program; and a primer on how UM, Michigan State University and Wayne State University are working together to diversify the state's economy and foster a fledgling film industry.
