UM Symposium Examines The Global Impact Of New Media
ANN ARBOR -- The University of Michigan will hold a new media social change symposium Friday, Nov. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 1636 of the School of Social Work Building, 1080 S. University Ave., Ann Arbor.
Leading scholars from the United States and Europe will examine how social and digital media have changed regions and reshaped the study of international questions. They will also discuss how changing technology will put news media at risk. The event is free and open to the public.
Speakers include James Der Derian, professor, Brown University; Joe Straubhaar, Amon G. Carter Centennial Professor of Communication, University of Texas at Austin; Victoria Bernal, associate professor of Anthropology, University of California, Irvine; E. Gabriella Coleman, assistant professor, Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, New York University; and Annabelle Sreberny, professor, Centre for Media and Film Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
