UD-Mercy Titans Head To Omaha
DETROIT (WWJ) – As March Madness heats up, The University of Detroit-Mercy basketball team is heading to the Big Dance.
The Detroit Titans will make their way to Omaha to face the number-two seed Kansas Jayhawks in the Second Round on Friday Mar. 16.
Point Guard, Ray McCallum said he can't wait to get there.
"This is every college basketball player's dream. Growing up, I've been around college basketball for 20-years of my life and I'm just really excited to get the opportunity," said McCallum.
McCallum's father, Ray McCallum, the teams coach is just as excited as his son. He said he probably won't sleep again until April.
According to Detroit Titans cheerleader, Samantha Sobe going to the Big Dance is huge.
"This is incredible. This is one of the most exciting things that I have ever done so, we're incredibly hyped for this."
The energy and enthusiasm amongst U of D students is high.
As the team's point guard, McCallum said that he is often congratulated by peers on campus.
"They say that they are proud of us. I just can't wait to play on the big stage in front of the country and show them what Detroit basketball is all about," he said.
