Uber Offers Rides For Spring Cleaning Donations
By Edward Cardenas
SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Uber is making donating items found during spring cleaning easier by offering free rides for donations to area Goodwill locations.
The ride-on-demand service has teamed up with Goodwill to offer free pick-up of clothing and other items from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Goodwill for #UberSpringCleaning this Saturday," according to a blog post by Uber. "By donating, you're not only checking a box on your to-do list, but also supporting Goodwill in its mission of job placement and training for people in your community."
The service will be offered in Detroit, Grand Rapids and Lansing Saturday. Those looking to donate, can open their Uber app in those three communities Saturday and request GIVE at the bottom of the screen on their smart phones.
If the donors and the Uber driver are connected, an SUV will arrive to pick up their items for free and drop-off the donation at a local Goodwill.
Uber and Goodwill are asking that all clothing must be bagged, and for donors to bring their donation to their driver when they arrive because they can't leave their vehicles unattended.
Those who are able to make a donation will receive a follow-up email next week with tax receipt information.
This is the latest unique promotion offered by Uber which included ice cream delivery, paczki on Fat Tuesday and rides in a new Cadillac during the North American International Auto Show.
