U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Visits Metro Detroit For Youth Clinic

WIXOM (WWJ) - U.S. Olympic medalist Jessica Mendoza will be in the metro-Detroit area in two weeks to conduct a softball clinic for girls.

The two-time Olympic medalist will host the clinic, which is geared toward girls ages 9-18, on January 16 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Total Sports Complex in Wixom. In addition to the softball clinic, participants are invited to attend a special two-hour presentation by Mendoza on Sunday, January 15.

Mendoza will teach clinic players basics to advances fundamentals in hitting, short game (slapping and bunting), base running, outfield and infield, strength and agility training and nutrition. In addition, each player will get a photo and receive an autograph.

A 2004 Olympic Gold medalist and Silver medalist in 2008, Mendoza has transitioned from on the field to off. She was the ESPN Commentator for the Women's College World Series and is a current member of the USSSA Pride of National Pro Fastpitch League.

Mendoza has used her celebrity to be an advocate for international causes while inspiring youth. Having served in various capacities, Mendoza has created a clinic that not only provides the fundamentals of softball but also teaches young girls about positive self-image and leadership skills.

The "Love It, Dream It, Live It" slogan behind Mendoza's brand epitomizes her desire to motivate youth to get involved in sports and achieve success across all facets.

The "Jessica Mendoza Experience" will take place at Total Sports Complex, 30990 S. Wixom Road. The cost is $125 per attendee. Advanced registration is recommended as space is limited.
