U.S. Commerce Official Tours Detroit Tech Firms
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Senior member of President Barack Obama's Administration says Detroit's emerging IT hub is key to job growth in this region.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development John Fernandez was in town, Friday, touring GalaxE.Solutions in Campus Martius. He also met with business leaders with Quicken Loans and Compuware.
"I think what's unique is just the incredible intense focus on it. There may be places that it's happening, but it's not part of a bold, visible, deliberate strategy like it is here," Fernandez said.
"And there's a strong interest from a number of companies to look at, with renewed interest in how do we re-shore, how do we bring back some of the jobs that went abroad earlier ... How do we look first here for expansion opportunism," he said.
GalaxE.Solutions has recently announced the hiring of 500 skilled IT workers.
