U-M President Says Rich Rodriguez Was Wrong Choice
FLINT (AP) - University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman says the school made the wrong choice when it hired Rich Rodriguez as its football coach.
Coleman made the comment Friday following a question on the topic during a Rotary Club event in Flint.
Rodriguez was fired last year after compiling a 15-22 record over his three seasons.
Coleman says Rodriguez was "a hot, young coach with a different approach," but that the decision to hire him ultimately was the wrong one.
The Flint Journal quotes Coleman as saying she's "very happy" that Rodriguez has a new job as head coach at Arizona and she wishes him luck.
Coleman also said she's pleased with current coach Brady Hoke, saying he and his "Midwestern ethos" are a better fit for the school.
