DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) – Without a doubt, it has been a banner year for Michigan basketball.

After reaching the championship game against Louisville in April, the Wolverines added another distinction Thursday to help lure recruits – having two players taken in the first round of the NBA draft.

Point guard and consensus National Player of the Year Trey Burke went ninth to the Minnesota Timberwolves (before quickly being traded to the Utah Jazz) after staying for his sophomore year. Tim Hardaway Jr., who was a junior at Michigan, was selected 24th overall by the New York Knicks.

Compared to many mock drafts, Burke went lower than expected, and Hardaway went higher than anticipated.
