Two Suspects Charged In Macomb County Car Break-ins
MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - The pair behind some recent car break-ins in a Macomb County neighborhood is now behind bars -- all thanks to an alert homeowner.
The Macomb County Sheriffs Office says that on Tuesday they received a call from the homeowner, reporting a suspicious vehicle driving in his neighborhood in the early morning hours without lights on.
When deputies arrived to the area of 23 Mile Road and Card in Macomb Township, they set up surveillance and observed a male suspect going into a parked, unlocked car.
Police say while the man, 21-year-old Robert Kempter, was going through the car, his female accomplice, 26-year-old Bethany Bowers, acted as a lookout.
Deputies later pulled over the two suspects in their Ford 500 and arrested them. Once in jail, corrections officers conducted a more thorough search and found that Kempter was hiding a debit card. Deputies determined that the card had been stolen from yet another vehicle on Meander Drive.
The two suspects were arraigned this week in District Court in Shelby Township and charged with Breaking & Entering of a Vehicle. They remain in the Macomb County Jail.
