Teen To Face Charges In Hit-And-Run

CANTON (WWJ) - A 14-year old boy is in custody, awaiting charges in an early morning hit-and-run that sent an elderly man to the hospital.

Canton Police said two young men were inside the truck that hit the 85-year old man as he stood outside his home on Westminister Street, in the area of Sheldon and Ford Roads. 

Both suspects fled the scene, but one was picked up by police a short time late. The other was turned into police by his family.

The victim, who was pinned against his house by this truck, was airlifted to St. Joseph Hospital in Ypsilanti for treatment. Officials said he suffered serious injuries, but an updated on his condition was not provided. 

A 14-year old male was being held Thursday in Wayne County Youth Home, where he will be held pending charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The second teen, who was being held by Canton Police, was released to a parent. 

The factors and circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.  The victim's name has not been released.
