Twitter Threat Shuts Down Fitzgerald High School
WARREN (WWJ) Fitzgerald High School in Warren released students at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday following a reported threat.
Police said a message was sent on Twitter that indicated someone was upset with a relationship between two students at the school. The message, according to police, also threatened to shoot someone. Investigators said there was a similar "verbal threat" between students made at a park yesterday.
Superintendent Barbara Van Sweden told WWJ 950 a student reported the threat to the high school principal who then put the school on lockdown with students and staff kept in rooms.
Warren police did a sweep of the campus and gave the all clear.
But it didn't mean an early day: Students were supposed to be out of school at 1:02 p.m. because there was a professional learning day for staff.
No one was hurt, with the superintendent saying the safety plan worked perfectly.
