Tuesday Is Election Day In Several Local Communities
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Tuesday is Election Day in some communities across Metro Detroit, with voters being asked to approve higher taxes and school improvements.
WWJ's Rob Mason reports that as home values continue to fall, some metro Detroit communities are looking to Tuesday's elections to help them out by approving higher taxes.
With continuing declines in revenue sharing from the state and fears that the state's new budget will accelerate those trends, cities like Ferndale, Hazel Park, Oak Park, Romulus and Southfield, are hoping a tax hike will help save critical services like public safety, libraries and community centers. Additionally, other communities including Huron, Fraser and Lake Orion, are voting for a school millage increase to support technology updates, building repairs and new school buses.
