Trump Protester In Detroit Says It Was 'Second Scariest' Thing She's Ever Done
DETROIT (WWJ) With Hillary Clinton arriving in town Thursday for a private event at a business in Warren, there's still plenty of talk about Donald Trump's visit on Monday.
Former State Sen. Rashida Tlaib was one of about 14 protesters removed from Trump's speech at Cobo Center. The usually excitable Trump remained largely impassive as individual protesters were carted away one by one after causing disturbances at his speech at the Detroit Economic Club.
Why did she do it? Tlaib said she had a message...and wanted Trump to hear it.
"I mean, I don't have thousands of dollars to get into those rooms with him and so that was my way of trying to communicate my concerns as a mother, as somebody who's raising two boys who are just constantly asking me questions about things that he says," said the woman who describes herself as an attorney, Muslim and proud Palestinian American.
She calls it the "second scariest thing" she's ever done.
"People are like 'get her out of here' and you know booing," she said. "One person grabbed one of the women from the arm and they were kind of getting violent with them. But it was like 'Why are they here?" And I looked to the people, I think it was somebody in front of me, and I said "Why not?"
The disruptions were planned by Michigan Peoples Campaign, in conjunction with Michigan United, Moms Against Trump and other activist groups. Tlaib said she watched young women stand up to say "things that really mattered to them" on topics like sexual abuse.
Overall, Tlaib said her message for Trump is "be careful with your words....because children are listening."
She uses the hashtag #MomsAgainstTrump on Twitter.
