Truck Driver Killed, Another Injured In I-94 Semi Smash-Up

SCIO TWP. (WWJ) - A truck driver was killed and another were seriously injured after their semi-trucks collided Wednesday night along I-94 near Ann Arbor.

The accident happened just after 7 p.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes between Baker and Zeeb roads in Scio Township.

Authorities say a 2006 Volvo semi-truck was traveling in the right lane when the driver lost control. As the truck was veering onto the shoulder, it was struck from behind by a 2012 Volvo semi-truck.

The driver of the 2012 Volvo, a 42-year-old Redford man, was ejected from his vehicle and struck by a 2016 Honda that was traveling in the center lane of I-94. He received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 2006 Volvo, a 45-year-old Canadian woman, was taken by ambulance to the University of Michigan hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The freeway was closed for eight hours for the investigation and clean-up.
