Truancy Could Cost DPS Millions
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Public School District is being fined by the state for ongoing truancy problems.
Attendance in the past school year was less than 75 percent on 46 school days -- or one-fourth of the school year. Poor record-keeping by the district is complicating efforts to determine just how much DPS should be fined.
It could cost the district as much as $26 million, although insiders expect the fine to be much lower.
