Troy Man Fights Back Against Armed Robber
TROY (WWJ) - Troy Police are investigating an robbery and shooting that saw one of the victims turn the tables on the gunman. It happened overnight Thursday on Birch Run Road, near Coolidge and Wattles.
Police said a couple was returning home when a gunman approached the woman as she got out of her car, demanding her jewelry. She refused and was knocked down.
Police said that's when her husband attacked the gunman with a shovel, but wound up being shot twice in the leg. The wounded gunman took off and was still on the run Friday.
The husband, a 67-year-old Troy resident, is hospitalized in stable condition; his 60-year-old wife was not seriously hurt.
The suspect is described as a male, 5'9'' to 6' tall, medium build. He was wearing a dark ski mask, gloves, a sweater and dress slacks. He may have injuries or bruises on his arms, back or head and may have had to seek medical treatment.
