Troy Man Behind Bars After Robbing Bank
WASHINGTON TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a brazen thief didn't get very far after holding up a bank in Washington Township.
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the Fifth Third Bank on Van Dyke, near 32 Mile Road, around 1:23 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a robbery that just occurred.
Bank employees informed deputies that a man had entered the bank and handed the teller a note requesting cash, implying that he had a weapon. The teller complied and gave the man an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then fled the scene.
Employees were able to give police a physical description of the man, as well as a clothing description, and dispatch relayed that description over the radio to area deputies.
Around 1:43 p.m., police captured the suspect at the Mobil Gas Station, located on Van Dyke just down the street from the bank. Police say they found an undisclosed amount of money in the center console of the suspect's vehicle, but didn't find any weapons.
Detectives who had arrived on scene at the bank were able to download a photograph of the suspect from a surveillance camera. That photo was brought to the gas station where the suspect was being detained and a positive match was made.
Police say the suspect, a 21-year-old Troy man, is currently lodged in the Macomb County Jail. He's expected to be arraigned later Wednesday after a warrant is authorized.
