Travelers Crowd Metro Detroit Bus Stations Ahead Of Thanksgiving Weekend
DETROIT (WWJ) - Instead of getting behind the wheel, some holiday travelers are opting for a set of bus wheels to reach their destinations.
WWJ's Mike Campbell was at the Greyhound Terminal in Detroit, where several people were coming and going just days before Thanksgiving.
Brittany Johnson was among those just arriving in the Motor City, coming home from school in Chicago for a long holiday weekend.
"The bus ride was fine. I had a seat to myself, all up in front and everything," she said.
Stephanie Steele was among those waiting in the departure lines.
"I'm going to Sydney, Ohio. It's about four hours away. I'm excited," she said.
As was Dave Cannell, who was on his way to Wisconsin to visit his daughter and her family.
"It's about 10, 10-and-a-half hour drive. I'll have plenty of time to think about how happy I am because of my family," he said.
Most riders say they took the bus because the tickets are cheap and it's mostly a nice way to travel. However, it's not necessarily fast or reliable.
Stormy Rincon was on a bus from Jacksonville, Fla. coming back to Detroit to visit her mom when the bus broke down in Kentucky.
"And we just got in at about 5:30 this morning and it was supposed to be 8 o'clock last night, and it's the first time I'm seeing my mom in a long time, so no, it wasn't a good ride," she said.
