Transplanted Libyans Want Khadafy Out
DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroiters of Libyan descent are watching events unfold. Salah Huwio left Libya in 1978 and now lives in Ann Arbor, but he still has many family members in Libya in Bhengazi.
Huwio spoke with one of his brothers Sunday, and says things are calm in that area right now, and that some parts of Libya are liberated. He hopes the U.S. will help isolate Khadafy and his family.
"What we want from the United States is just to isolate Khadafi and his family, we don't want no interference from United State militarily," Huwio says.
This as President Barack Obama is calling on Libyan dictator Moammar Khadafi to leave power immediately with his violent crackdown on his own people.
Huwio says Khadafy is a madman and he fears he may still launch more attacks on the people , since he has chemical weapons.
"Khadafy's regime is done. He is, uh, living in his little compound in Tripoli . He has some mercenaries running around the city , setting fears in people's hearts, killing, shooting, and snatching even the body. What they're doing, they killing ..like two-three days ago they were going like wild, killing everybody, snatching the body from the streets," Huwio says.
