Transferring Brandon Wood Can Play Immediately For MSU

EAST LANSING (AP) - Michigan State coach Tom Izzo says he isn't fond of the rule that allowed Brandon Wood to be a one-and-done Spartan.

Izzo, though, is glad the fifth-year senior is playing for him instead of against him.

Wood transferred to Michigan State from Valparaiso in May after earning a bachelor's degree. The NCAA allows him to play immediately because he's pursuing a master's degree at Michigan State in advertising, which wasn't offered at the Horizon League school in Indiana.

Wood says he chose be a Spartan over opportunities at Purdue, Indiana, Tennessee and Florida State.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard will play right away. Izzo has just two players who averaged more than 20 minutes a game last season and seven Spartans who haven't played a minute for the program.
