Trial Starts For Former Miss USA Busted On Drunk Driving Charge
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - The trial begins in Highland Park Wednesday for former Miss USA, Rima Fakih, who was busted on a drunk driving charge last year.
Two years ago, Fakih became the first Arab-American crowned Miss USA.
The 26-year-old was stopped December 3rd. Fakih was accused of driving 60 mph in a Jaguar and weaving through traffic without using a signal.
Police say they found an open bottle of champagne behind the driver's seat. Fakih has said she wasn't drinking that night, but two police breathalyzer tests put her blood alcohol content at more than twice the legal limit.
A plea deal never materialized and the case was scheduled for trial.
The charge is a misdemeanor, and Fakih faces up to 90 days in jail plus fines if convicted.
Fakih's family moved to New York from Lebanon in 1993 and 10 years later to Dearborn.
