Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work
DETROIT (WWJ) - One color that will be prominent on Metro Detroit freeways this weekend is orange -- those lovely stripped construction barrels.
Save yourself some time and patience by planning your route ahead of time to avoid work zones.
The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.
FULL CLOSURE:
M-1 (Woodward Avenue):
In Oakland County, northbound and southbound Woodward Ave will be closed between Martin Luther King Jr. and South boulevards from 7 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday in order for St. Joe Mercy Hospital in Pontiac to install a new pedestrian overpass above Woodward. Detours will be posted for both directions utilizing both MLK and South boulevards.
LANE/RAMP CLOSURES:
I-696:
In Macomb County, the right two lanes of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed between Hoover Road and M-97 (Groesbeck Highway) from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing bridge work.
In Oakland County, the right lane of eastbound I-696 will be closed from Halstead to Drake roads from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for maintenance work.
I-75:
In Oakland County, the right lane of northbound I-75 will be closed from Maple to Rochester roads from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for maintenance work.
In Oakland County, intermittent single and double lane closures on northbound and southbound I-75 at Featherstone Drive from 10 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday for bridge maintenance.
In Detroit, the right two lanes of southbound I-75 will be closed over the Rouge River starting at 7 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday for pavement repair.
In Detroit, the right lane of southbound I-75 will be closed from 8 Mile to 7 Mile roads from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday. Three lanes will be open.
I-94:
In Macomb County, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and ending at 6 a.m. Monday, the entrance ramp from 23 Mile Road to westbound I-94, and the westbound I-94 exit ramp to 23 Mile Road will be closed for ongoing construction. Detours will be posted utilizing M-19 (New Haven Road) and 26 Mile Road.
In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be down to a single lane between 23 Mile andCounty Line roads starting at 9 p.m. Friday and ending at 6 a.m. Monday.
In Detroit, eastbound and westbound I-94 will have two lanes closed with traffic shifts between Michigan Avenue and M-10 (Lodge Freeway) as crews begin a project to resurface the freeway and make overpass repairs. The lane closures begin at 9 p.m. Friday and end by 5 a.m. Monday.
In addition, the following ramps will be closed during the same time frame:
- Eastbound and westbound I-96 to eastbound I-94
- Linwood entrance to eastbound I-94
- Eastbound I-94 exit to West Grand Blvd
- Weir Street entrance to eastbound I-94
- Wyoming entrance to eastbound I-94
In Wayne County, the westbound I-94 exit ramp to US-24 (Telegraph Road) will be closed from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday for overhead sign installation.
M-102 (Eight Mile Road):
In Wayne County, eastbound and westbound M-102 will have the two left lanes closed between Grand River Ave and Telegraph Road beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday. This will mark the beginning of a resurfacing project. The right two lanes will remain open, and intermittent crossovers will be closed throughout the duration of this stage which is expected to end in mid-August. From mid-August to November, the two right lanes will be closed.
M-3 (Gratiot Ave):
In Macomb County, southbound M-3 will be reduced to a single lane from Colonial Court to Wellington-Crescent roads for reconstruction work. The work begins at noon tomorrow and is expected to wrap up in early August.
M-39:
In Wayne County, the northbound M-39 exit to McNichols Road will be closed from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday for sewer work.
M-59:
In Oakland County, intermittent single and double lane closures on eastbound and westbound M-59 between Opdyke and Ryan Roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Sunday. Intermittent ramps will be affected during this work to install permanent pavement markings.
US-24 (Telegraph Road):
In Wayne County, the right lane of southbound Telegraph will be closed at Pennsylvania Road from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday for maintenance.
Beginning the week of May 21:
M-39:
In Wayne County, beginning at 4 a.m. Monday, the ramp from southbound M-39 to eastbound I-94 will be closed until mid-June for ongoing bridge work at the interchange. A detour will be posted.
In Wayne County, the right lane of northbound M-39 will be closed at Seven Mile Road from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily Monday through Wednesday for punch list work.
I-94:
In Macomb County, a single lane will be closed on eastbound and westbound I-94 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly between 23 Mile and County Line roads for ongoing resurfacing work.
I-696 Service Drives:
In Macomb County, a single lane will be closed on the eastbound and westbound I-696 service drive between Hayes and I-94 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily starting Monday and ending Friday.
US-12 (Michigan Avenue):
In Wayne County, the right lane of westbound US-12 will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily from Brady Street to Outer Drive in Dearborn until mid-June for sidewalk work.
