Traffic Alert: Southbound I-275 To Shut Down On Monday
LIVONIA (WWJ) - It's one of the big construction projects of 2016 we've been warning you about, and now we know when it's going to start.
Beginning Monday, May 2, southbound I-275 will be closed between I-696 and M-14. The closure is expected to last until late-June.
When southbound I-275 closes, eastbound I-96 traffic will remain on eastbound I-696 to detour to southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway) to westbound I-96, then southbound I-275.
Once the southbound work is completed, northbound I-275 will close. That schedule will be announced ahead of time and shared on the I-275 project website: revive275.com. Work on northbound I-275 is expected to take until September.
The $75 million project includes replacing 88 lanes, miles of concrete pavement on I-275 from north of 5 Mile Road to the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange, including all the ramps on "Mile" roads and at the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange. The project also includes shoulder work on I-275, concrete repairs on I-696, repairs on 16 bridges, drainage improvements, and intelligent transportation systems work.
