Traffic Alert: Replacement Of M-53 Bridge Over I-94 Begins Soon
DETROIT (WWJ) - Crews will begin replacing the Van Dyke Avenue (M-53) bridge over I-94 in early March, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
MDOT officials say the $8 million investment will improve safety on both M-53 and I-94 in Detroit. The project is expected to be completed in November.
In early March, crews will close both directions of Van Dyke Avenue over I-94 to begin preliminary utility work. Detours will be posted for both directions of Van Dyke Avenue, which is expected to remain closed until mid-October.
Demolition will occur in late March, requiring crews to close I-94 under the structure for two weekends. The full closures will begin at 9 p.m. on Fridays and end by 5 a.m. on Mondays.
During weekday commuting times, all three lanes of eastbound and westbound I-94 will be open. Additional lane closures on I-94 will be limited to overnights and weekends until the project's completion.
