Traffic Alert: Oakland County Road Work To Cause Delays
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Know before you go!
The Oakland County Road Commission has announced more than a dozen road projects which might cause traffic delays between Oct. 9 and Oct. 16, or may start shortly thereafter.
This information is subject to change. Projects can change from day to day, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather, emergency situations, etc.
- ROAD: Rochester Road from Lakeville Road to the southern Leonard Village limits
Project: Rochester Rd. is closed between Lakeville Road and Mack Road as part of the ongoing RCOC resurfacing project. The detour route is Brewer to Townsend to Mack & vice versa.
Community: Addison Twp.
Completion Date: By Nov. 11
- ROAD: 13 Mile Road between Telegraph and Lahser roads
Project: RCOC is replacing the 13 Mile Road bridge over the Rouge River in this section of 13 Mile. This section of 13 Mile is closed to through traffic during the project. The detour route during the closure is Lahser Road to 12 Mile Road to Telegraph Road and back to 13 Mile and vice versa.
Community: Bingham Farms
Completion Date: Open to traffic by the end of October
- ROAD: 11 Mile Road between Campbell and Troy streets
Project: The City of Royal Oak has closed the outside lane in both directions of this section of 11 Mile Road for a streetscape and water main project.
Community: Royal Oak
Completion Date: Depends on work progress, but probably in late October
- ROAD: Tienken Road, Rochester Road to Sheldon Road
Project: RCOC is widening this section of Tienken to three lanes. The road is closed during the project. The detour route for through traffic is Rochester Road/Main Street to Avon Road to Dequindre Road to Runyon Road and vice versa.
Community: Rochester Hills
Completion Date: Open to traffic by Oct. 19 (the Tienken/Sheldon roundabout is open)
- ROAD: 8 Mile Road between Napier and Taft roads
Project: RCOC is resurfacing this section of 8 Mile Road. The section between Napier and Beck will be done this year, with the section between Beck and Taft done in 2014.
Community: On the Novi/Northville Township border and in the City of Northville
Completion Date: Work is to stop in November, but will continue next spring
- ROAD: 12 Mile Road, Stephenson Highway to Dequindre Road
Project: RCOC is resurfacing this section of 12 Mile.
Community: Royal Oak and Madison Heights
Completion Date: Nov. 15
- ROAD: County Center Drive East and Court Tower Blvd. North on the Oakland County government campus
Project: RCOC is reconstructing/resurfacing County Center Dr. East from the southern Jail entrance to the northern intersection with Powerhouse Dr. & Court Tower Blvd. North. County Center Dr. East from the northern Jail entrance to Court Tower Boulevard North is currently closed, and will remain closed until late October. The detour route is Hospital St. to Court Tower Blvd. South & vice versa.
Community: Pontiac
Completion Date: Early-to-mid November
- ROAD: Voorheis Road, Telegraph to M-59 (Huron St.)
Project: This section of Voorheis is closed to through traffic while Waterford Township installs a liner in the water main running under the road. During the closure, the detour route for through traffic is Telegraph Road to Huron Street (M-59) and vice versa.
Community: Waterford Twp.
Completion Date: Late November
- ROAD: Crooks Road between Long Lake and Square Lake roads
Project: The City of Troy is replacing concrete slabs in this section of Crooks. There are intermittent lane closures.
Community: Troy
Completion Date: Mid-November
- ROAD: Haggerty Road, 9 Mile Road to north of Village Wood Dr.
Project: RCOC is resurfacing this section of Haggerty.
Community: Novi/Farmington Hills border
Completion Date: November
- ROAD: 14 Mile Road, Haggerty to Country Way
Project: RCOC is reconstructing this section of 14 Mile. The road is closed during the project. The detour route for through traffic is Halsted Road to 13 Mile Road to Haggerty Road and vice versa.
Community: West Bloomfield Twp.
Completion Date: Nov. 15
- ROAD: Napier Road from 10 Mile Road to north of 11 Mile Road
Project: RCOC is resurfacing this section of Napier Road. The road remains open during the project, but is reduced to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic.
Community: On the Novi/Lyon Twp. border
Completion Date: Mid-October
- ROAD: Pontiac Trail between 8 Mile and 9 Mile roads
Project: This section of Pontiac Trail will be closed from Friday evening, Oct. 18, through the early morning of Monday, Oct. 21 (will be open before rush hour), so a culvert can be replaced under the road. During the closure, the detour route will be 8 Mile Road to Beck Road to 9 Mile Road and back to Pontiac Trail and vice versa.
Community: Lyon Twp.
Completion Date: Before rush hour Monday morning, Oct. 21
- ROAD: South Boulevard, between Crooks Road and Coolidge Highway
Project: RCOC expects to close this section of South Boulevard on Saturday, Oct. 12, to replace a culvert under the road. During the closure, the detour route will be Crooks Road to Square Lake Road to Coolidge Highway and back to South Boulevard and vice versa.
Community: On the Rochester Hills/Troy border
Completion Date: End of day Oct. 12
- ROAD: Clarkston Road between Sashabaw Road and Flemings Lake Road
Project: RCOC expects to close this section of Clarkston Road on Friday and possibly Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, to replace a culvert under the road. During the closure, the detour route will be Sashabaw Road to Waldon Road to Walters Road to Flemings Lake Road and back to Clarkston Road and vice versa.
Community: Independence Twp.
Completion Date: By end of the day, Sunday, Oct. 12
- ROAD: Inkster Road at 12 Mile Road
Project: Sunoco company is making a spot repair to its pipeline under the road at this intersection. Work will take place from 9 a.m. today (Oct. 9) through 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14. During the work, Inkster Road will be reduced to one through lane in each direction, and left turns will be prohibited from 12 Mile onto Inkster.
