Traffic Alert: Lodge Freeway Service Drive To Close For Repairs
DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! The Michigan Department of Transportation is closing the northbound Lodge Freeway service drive in Detroit for emergency repairs.
MDOT will be repairing the northbound M-10 retaining wall at Schaefer Highway beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 5. Additionally this weekend, a full closure of the northbound M-10 freeway will be needed for excavation work on the retaining wall. The project involves strengthening the foundational support of the wall to ensure safety for motorists on the freeway below.
During summer 2012, a section of the northbound retaining wall, just north of Schaefer Highway, was noticeably tilting toward the freeway. Crews installed seven tilt sensors to confirm the visual findings. Over the following 10 months, the sensors detected an additional tilt of up to one-half inch, prompting the need for immediate repair.
While the wall is being repaired, one lane of northbound M-10 may be closed at times at the Schaefer Highway overpass. For the excavation on the service drive, the northbound M-10 freeway will be closed this weekend from M-8 (Davison Freeway) to Seven Mile Road. A detour will be posted.
MDOT hasn't said how long the work will take.
