Traffic Alert: I-275 Road Work At Van Born Road
VAN BUREN TWP (WWJ) - Structural repairs are expected to begin this weekend on southbound I-275 at Van Born Road in Wayne County, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The repairs are necessary after a commercial vehicle struck a steel beam on the bridge that carries I-275 over Van Born Road in June 2010. The repair work includes the installation of a new beam.
Construction is scheduled to begin at 7 am Saturday, April 2, when crews will close the right lane on southbound I-275 in order to install a temporary concrete barrier. After the barrier has been placed, the right lane will remain closed.
Van Born Road will also be closed under I-275. Through-traffic on both directions of Van Born Road will be detoured using Haggerty Road, Michigan Avenue and Hannan Road. Local access will be maintained on Van Born Road, but no traffic will be allowed to cross under the freeway.
I-275 over Van Born Road is located between I-94 and US-12 Michigan Avenue.
Both lane closures are expected to last no more than 30 days. The $200,000 cost of repair is being charged to the commercial vehicle's insurance provider.
